# How to post your product launch on Product Hunt

Submit your product to Product Hunt step by step: what to prepare, how to fill in each field, when to schedule it and what to do on launch day.

Published 1 October 2026 · by Dan · Guides.

A Product Hunt launch lasts one day. Most of the work happens before it: the text, the images, the date and the people you tell. This guide walks through the submission form field by field, then covers scheduling and launch day. Steps were last checked on 1 October 2026.

## Before you start

You need a **personal** Product Hunt account. Company accounts can't post products. Sign up with your own name and finish the onboarding steps, because the submit button only works once they are done.

You don't need anyone else to post it for you. Anyone can submit, or "hunt", their own product, and you don't need to pay a hunter.

Get these ready before you open the form. With these written in a doc first, the form is quick to fill in:

- **The product's URL.** Link to the product itself, not a press release or a blog post.
- **A tagline** of at most 60 characters: what the product does, in plain words.
- **A description** of at most 260 characters.
- **A square thumbnail**, 240 × 240 pixels. A GIF works if it is under 3 MB.
- **At least 2 gallery images**, 1270 × 760 pixels each. Screenshots of the product work best.
- **A first comment** from you, the maker (more on that below).
- Optional: a YouTube video, an interactive demo, a promo code for Product Hunt visitors.

## Step 1: start the submission

1. Sign in and click **Submit** at the top right.
2. Choose **New product**.
3. Paste your product's URL. The rest of the form opens.

## Step 2: fill in the main details

- **Name.** Only the product's name. No descriptions or emoji, unless they are part of the official name.
- **Tagline.** One line, no gimmicks. "Weekly brief of what your competitors changed" says more than "Your secret weapon".
- **Links.** The main URL from step 1, plus app store links if you have them.
- **Description.** Who it's for and what it does, in 260 characters.
- **Launch tags.** Pick up to 3 topics that fit best. Fewer, closer matches beat a long list.

## Step 3: add images and media

- **Thumbnail.** Your logo or a simple product mark on a plain background. It shows at small sizes in the feed, so keep it simple.
- **Gallery.** At least 2 images. Lead with the one that explains the product fastest. Most people only look at the first one.
- **Video or demo.** Paste the full YouTube link (shortened links don't load), or a link to an interactive demo.

## Step 4: makers, pricing and status

- **Makers.** Add everyone who built the product, by their Product Hunt username. They each need their own account, so ask them to sign up early.
- **Pricing.** Free, paid, or paid with a free trial or free plan.
- **Status.** Mark it if the product is in beta or not available yet.
- **Promo code.** Optional, for example a discount for people who find you on Product Hunt.

## Step 5: write the first comment

The first comment is your chance to talk to visitors in your own words, so always write one. Cover three things:

1. **Your story.** Why you built it, in two or three sentences.
2. **Who it's for**, and the problem it solves for them.
3. **The key features**, as a short list.

End by asking for feedback, or asking a question people can answer. Don't ask for upvotes (see the rules below).

## Step 6: schedule the launch or save a draft

At the end of the form you have two choices:

- **Create draft** saves the whole post without a date. Drafts are hidden from the site, so your team can review them first.
- **Schedule launch** picks a launch date up to 30 days from today. The post stays hidden until then. Nobody can find it or upvote it early.

To change a scheduled or draft post later, open your avatar menu and choose **My products**.

### Pick the day

Product Hunt's day runs from midnight to midnight Pacific Time, and scheduled launches go live at 12:01 am Pacific. That gives your launch the full 24 hours. For a team in Europe, that is 9:01 am in Berlin most of the year.

Weekdays are busier: more visitors, but more launches to compete with. Weekends are quieter, so a small launch has a better chance to stand out. Larger companies tend to launch on weekdays, side projects and small teams often at the weekend.

### Tease it before launch day

You can tease an upcoming launch for up to 30 days before it, for free. A teaser is a short description and one image on its own page and on the Coming soon page. Visitors can ask to be told when you launch, and Product Hunt emails them on the day.

## Launch day

- **Be there all day.** Reply to every comment, early and in detail.
- **Share the link.** Post it on LinkedIn and X, send it to your newsletter and tell your users. Ask people to visit, try it and leave a comment.
- **Don't ask for upvotes.** It's against Product Hunt's rules.
- **Watch the All tab if you're not on the home page.** Product Hunt's team picks which launches are featured on the home page, based on how useful, new and well made they are. A launch that isn't featured is still listed under All, and can still collect comments and upvotes.

## After the launch

Thank the people who commented, add any good feedback to your plans, and keep the product page up to date. When the product has changed enough to be worth a second look, you can launch it again.

## Plan the whole launch on one calendar

A Product Hunt launch has a lot of dates: asking makers to sign up, finishing the gallery, publishing the teaser, scheduling the post, and the social posts on the day. Put them in one place so nothing is left for the night before.

[Plainrival Timeline](https://plainrival.com/timeline) is a free launch planner for exactly this: a calendar, a dated checklist for each day and a progress bar for each phase, like "Teaser" and "Launch week". No setup and no AI.

For the posts that go with your launch, see [how to schedule a LinkedIn post](https://plainrival.com/blog/schedule-linkedin-post) and [how to schedule a post on X](https://plainrival.com/blog/schedule-post-on-x).
